The Beilstein-Institut, located in Frankfurt am Main, is a non-profit scientific foundation, fostering the communication, collaboration and sharing of ideas between scientists through open science principles. We are looking to extend our current portfolio of open science projects by collaborating with the community on digital infrastructure projects in chemistry. If you have experience in developing tools and software for digital infrastructure for chemistry and are interested in this unique opportunity to directly contribute to an international project by working in conjunction with the InChI community while contributing to the goals of a long-standing non-profit organization, then we invite you to apply for the position of:

 

Cheminformatician (f/m/d)

Your Profile

  • you have a university degree (Masters/Diplom/PhD) in computer science, cheminformatics, or chemistry (but with demonstrated, very good programming skills and related experience)
  • professional experience in software development
  • profound knowledge of C and C++ required, knowledge of Java is preferable
  • experience with the embedment of chemical drawing editors like ChemDraw into IT data workflows is preferable
  • knowledge of chemical cartridges and chemical tool boxes (e.g. RDKit, CDK)
  • good communication skills and ability to discuss technical topics with non-developers
  • excellent command of English, both written and spoken
  • ability to work independently, accurately and in a well-structured way
  • you must be eligible to work and live in Germany

Your Tasks

  • further development of the IUPAC International Chemical Identifier (InChI)
  • integration of the InChI standard in the Beilstein-Institut projects (journals, databases, etc.)
  • detailed documentation of the programming developments
  • testing of extensions of the program with specially selected application examples
  • evaluation of the test results and improvement of the program
  • bug fixing and input of user needs regarding software development
  • collaboration and direct exchange between the InChI Trust, IUPAC and other organizations who are working to promote the InChI standard
