In spring 2020, the spread of SARS CoV-2 caused the 8th Warren Workshop to be cancelled and the organizers decided to postpone this popular meeting by another year. However, this would have meant colliding with another popular meeting, the Beilstein GlycoBioinformatics Symposium.

Glycosciences
June 23 - 25, 2021
The Joint Warren and Beilstein Symposium on Glycosciences 2021 was held online and brought together glycochemists and biologists with experts in bioinformatics and computer sciences.
Scientific Committee:
Anne Imberty / Université Grenoble Alps
Carsten Kettner / Beilstein-Institut
Frédérique Lisacek / Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, Geneva
Sylvie Ricard-Blum / Université de Lyon
Overview
Thus, the organisers of both conferences decided to make a virtue of necessity and merge their events to provide a common platform which will bring together glycochemists and glycobiologists with experts in bioinformatics and computer sciences to gather the recent advances in glycoconjugate analysis, structure and bioinformatics.
Topics 2021
The following aspects have been covered:
- complexity of glycomolecules,
- chemical tools for synthesizing and analysis of glycans,
- profiling glycans as markers to detect viruses, pathogens etc.,
- cell walls and cell surfaces,
- glycans in three dimensions,
- software tools for data storage, analysis, mining and sharing,
- synthetic glycobiology
