Travel

By Air

For European members of the STRENDA Commission, the closest airport is London Stansted, which is a 30-minute drive from the Genome Campus.

London Stansted has regular connections from Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Asturias, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Lille and Munich.

If you fly into London Heathrow or Gatwick, allow at least 2 hours to reach Hinxton by road and/or train.

For members of the STRENDA Commission from overseas the most appropriate airport is certainly London Heathrow.

Local Transport

From London Heathrow it is recommended to take the subway (tube) to Liverpool Street or King’s Cross stations and to change on National Rail to e.g. Whittlesford Parkway. This trip takes about 1 h and costs about £6.00. Additional stations which are close to EBI are Audley End and Great Chesterford. Take a taxi from these stations to make the last miles to the EBI.

For time tables for the trains, see the National Rail website.

From London Stansted the most appropriate travel means is a taxi which costs around £37 if booked in advance. If you take an unbooked taxi from the airport, this could cost over £50.

Taxis from Heathrow will be £101 and from Gatwick £117.

Please note: From my own experience it is not recommended to take a train to Cambridge and then change on a taxi to the EBI. This takes ages and costs unreasonably much money!
