The 12th STRENDA meeting

22 - 23 September, 2016

European Bioinformatics Institute, Hinxton, Cambridge, UK

The 12th STRENDA meeting will be held at the EBI in Hinxton, nr. Cambridge, UK. The meeting will take place on Thursday, the 22nd, and Friday, the 23rd, from 9 am to 6 pm, with the 21st and 24th for travelling.

Due to organizational reasons, for the first overnight stay at the HolidayInn Express in Duxford a reasonable number of rooms have been reserved. The participants will be transferred to the EBI in the morning of the 22nd and accommodated on the campus for the following nights.

The costs for boarding and lodging at the EBI will be covered by the Beilstein-Institut directly, all participants are requested to settle their bills with the HolidayInn Express themselves. Extras such as such as drinks, telephone calls, internet access etc. are not included in the price.

Please register for the STRENDA meeting using the registration form. Travel expenses to the meeting must be authorized in advance and in writing by Beilstein-Institut, and will be reimbursed upon presentation of vouchers and invoices. For this, please complete and return the Travel Application Form.

The Venue

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) is situated on the Wellcome Genome Campus, near to Hinxton which is about 10 miles south of Cambridge.

The address is:
European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, CB10 1SD, United Kingdom

By Air

For European members of the STRENDA Commission, the closest airport is London Stansted, which is a 30-minute drive from the Genome Campus.

London Stansted has regular connections from Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Asturias, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Lille and Munich.

If you fly into London Heathrow or Gatwick, allow at least 2 hours to reach Hinxton by road and/or train.

For members of the STRENDA Commission from overseas the most appropriate airport is certainly London Heathrow.

Local Transport

From London Heathrow it is recommended to take the subway (tube) to Liverpool Street or King’s Cross stations and to change on National Rail to e.g. Whittlesford Parkway. This trip takes about 1 h and costs about £6.00. Additional stations which are close to EBI are Audley End and Great Chesterford. Take a taxi from these stations to make the last miles to the EBI.

For time tables for the trains, see the National Rail website.

From London Stansted the most appropriate travel means is a taxi which costs around £37 if booked in advance. If you take an unbooked taxi from the airport, this could cost over £50.

Taxis from Heathrow will be £101 and from Gatwick £117.

Please note: From my own experience it is not recommended to take a train to Cambridge and then change on a taxi to the EBI. This takes ages and costs unreasonably much money!
