Gold complexes can catalyze various organic reactions. In the last decade, a number of examples applying appropriate gold compounds have been published. The current state of research is described in the two Thematic Series "Gold catalysis for organic synthesis", which were published in the Beilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry and edited by F. Dean Toste.
In contrast to the examples above, in organocatalysis no metal atoms function as active sites. Catalytically active are organic compounds of low molecular weight. The results of a collaborative research program of the German Research Foundation are presented by Benjamin List in his Thematic Series "Organocatalysis".
Transition-metal and Organocatalysis in natural product synthesis
This Thematic Series describes the use of metal compounds and organocatalysts in the synthesis of natural products. It has been edited by David Yu-Kai Chen, Seoul National University, and Dawei Ma, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry.
